Has this problem sorted itself out?

I'm guessing it's a broken ebuild on Gentoo? - I'm pretty sure Gentoo packages aren't supposed to try and install into /usr/local

If doing an emerge --sync and trying it again doesn't work then try masking (/etc/portage/package.mask) that version and install an earlier one if possible.

Alternatively go the other way and unmask an later version - I sometimes find that the Gentoo developers are a bit slow to unmask packages that are actually pretty stable
