    SUSE Email Server II

    Hi.

Just managed to get a copy of this and wondered if any of you had used it/are using it as an email server? If so, what's it like?

I have quite a few years of Linux experience (since Open Linux 1 actually) and so installing it on the school LAN doesn't scare me. But I'm wondering how good an older (SuSE 7.1) installation for email would be for around 400 staff?

    Thanks,

    Paul

Personally I wouldn't use any version of SUSE. Its a pain to upgrade and you can end up with dependancy hell because its an RPM based distro.

As you have Unix experience I'd suggest you look at Debian.

If your curious, I use Gentoo.

    Hi Geoff.

Thanks for the heads up! I tend to agree- and have actually used debian in the form of Knoppix for a long time. What I will do is get a copy of Gentoo and give it a whirl.

    Thanks mate!

Gentoo throws you in the deep end. You'll learn a lot but it'll probably be quite frustrating until you've got a handle on the basics.

Feel free to vent your frustrations here and I'll do my best to help.

    Thanks Geoff.

I will be getting a copy this weekend and probably testing it on a machine at home before I use it at work. If I need any help I'll let you know.

    Paul :-)

I think it would be more along the lines of lingen because lin is the first 3 letters of linux and gen are the first 3 letters of genius and lin and gen go well together
