Do you realise you dont turn it on as such, not directly anyway. You need to enable virus scanning in Dansguardian/HavP?/email/etc, and it will turn on by itself (or maybe you can turn it on then, click on the shield). Unless something is using it it will remain inactive
It can be abit of a pain i know, its one of the reason im using Endian instead. Smoothwall express 3 has never been as complete or stable as 2 imho, far too much initial work to get the system i want anyway.
I seem to remember something about clamAV not updating properly aswell, cant remember the full details but you needed to edit the cron job to make the update process output to "null" or else it would fail. Or something along those lines. Check the forums, ive found them to be really helpful.

Just installing Express3 now, see if I can refresh my ailing memory

16th June 2009, 08:37 AM #21 OK.. done and checked... it seems AV in Express3 is only on Pop3 email. IT should be on automatically, though I don't have a pop account to hand to test the theory

It will if you make a suitable proxy use it. If everything worked out of box how do you expect Tom to earn his pennies?
