Hi All,
I want to setup a number of printers so that nagios does only 2 things:
1 - Checks the printer is online - Simple ping, I can do this
2 - Only warns when toner is low - Email is good
I have the following printers:
Brother 6050DN has snmp
HP 1020/3500/3700/3900 has snmp
Has anyone setup something like this??
Can you provide any pointers??

22nd August 2008, 10:40 AM #2 Setup SNMP on the printer, read the Nagios guide. Pretty straight forward.
I know OKi can email you from there built-in utility, not sure about HP, Nagios will also email you if you set it up.

Have you done an snmpwalk on the devices?

22nd August 2008, 11:38 AM #4 I've got a script that will check amount of toner and give you a percentage. You might be able to get some usage out of it. You will need to do an snmp walk though to find the correct mibs.
Here's the link it was posted at: Monitoring Printers with Nagios

22nd August 2008, 07:13 PM #5 I looked into this once upon a time and IIRC you need a file for the printer with the SNMP descriptors in it. That's as far as I got though, sorry.
