Just upgraded but it seems all our previous custom blocked lists have disappeared and the kids can get back on the sites
I took a baclup just before I upgraded and then chose to migrate during the setup but although it preserved my settings, it hasnt copied all my block lists
I tried applying the pre-2008 archve that i took but nothing

2nd May 2008, 01:53 PM #2 Unfortunately the list formats are sufficiently different 05->08 that they won't come across. This is due to going from group-by-group config to "policy".
Support should be able to rescue those lists and you can put em in custom allowed/custom blocked. Or, indeed, mail em to me and i'll do it

3rd May 2008, 04:31 PM #7 Good to know ... Stephen will be upgrading ours in the next week or two. I'll warn him and get the files sent over.
I might see if he can load it onto a VM box first to get the files across and tested before doing the live box.

3rd May 2008, 07:36 PM #8 Tony,
The VM trick is a great way to proceed - there's no licencing issues (that'd be thick!) so run up your new filter in VM, get it 101% and then transfer those settings to your live install.
I'll try and remember to get support to do a howto on rescuing bits out of backups.
Thanks kmount... and as you can see im not even a support agent ;-P i just love my job! (mostly).

How about building a VMWare image for existing customers to help them migrate for either SchoolGuardian or Network Guardian?

4th May 2008, 01:20 PM #13 TBH, there's been some talk of building a VMWare image. The main issue is that our products ask IP addresses during install, so you'd have to "guess" an IP - wich is no fun either in bridged or NAT VMnets... it doesnt save the end user a lot of time either - now VMware ws is freely available, its a 10 min job to build a NG VM.
Still... its one of those things thats being contemplated...
