LTSP, Terminal Services and Virtual Box

If I setup a ubuntu (or other linux distro) running LTSP and virtual box would that allow for the terminal service to run windows apps via nothing but linux OSes? Or am I getting the wrong end of the stick?

You would need a Windows terminal server to serve Windows applications, but the clients can be anything you want.

An LTSP server would allow you to serve any linux apps you wanted.

I thought that virtual box would allow for a virtual session of windows to run within Linux?

I know wine does but it's not the best of program for educationally written software.

Virtualbox would require you to have a full install of Windows installed within it - it is a virtualisation program, like VMWare or Virtual PC.

That wouldn't cause a problem but if I did do that could it work via ts?

This would consume huge amounts of resources if you could get it working, it would be easier just to host a windows TS in the first place. You would need full windows licenses at around £250 for each VM.

It may do, but it will only work with 1 copy of windows at a time - ie. you can't have a single virtualbox install serving more than one person.

You would need full windows licenses at around £250 for each VM.
This is something to think about too - they could not be OEM licenses or upgrade licenses. They would have to be full licenses.

I don't mind buying licenses but it doesn't do what I need which is a shame.

    Thanks for the info!
