    I can't get GIT to work behind a proxy?

    I have set the proxy for my ubuntu box like so...
    Code:
    $ export http_proxy=http://myproxy.domain.com:1234
    $ git config --global http.proxy $http_proxy
    but when I try to download a file with GIT I get the following error ...
    Code:
    source.ffmpeg.org[0: 88.191.250.118]: errno=Connection timed out
    fatal: unable to connect a socket (Connection timed out)
    fetch-pack from 'git://source.ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg' failed.
    Is there something else I need to do?

    I am trying to set up VidiScript to see if it's worth showing the teaching staff.

    Hmm, Seems git will retrieve files from some repositories but not others. Never mind.

    Try the line
    export http_proxy="http://myproxy.domain.com:1234"

    You might also need to create /etc/apt/apt/conf (it probably doesn't exist) to contain the line

    Acquire::http::Proxy "http://yourproxyaddressroxyport";

    Fill out yer own proxy in both cases of course.
