    Asterisk Chaning the dial tones

    Hi,

    I have installed asterisknow and i would like it to use the UK dial notes not the USA ones. I have found some stuff on the internet on editing the indications.conf file but i have no idea how to do that.

    Running the command Set(CHANNEL(tonezone)=UK) as per this guide retruns invland syntax. I am not a Linux guru so please bear with me.

    Thanks

    SSH to the asterisk box

    after logging in change to the directory where that file is

    cd /etc/asterisk

    then to edit it type

    vi indications.conf

    when in press INSERT to enable editing, then when done you need to esc the type :x to exit and save.

    vi indications.conf

    vi <-- the worst editor in the world..

    you may have nano or emacs or pico

    if not it's vi

    vi indications.conf

    press insert
    edit what you need
    press esc
    press :wq

    The nice thing about vi is that it is available on every *nix and if you know how to use it natively, you don't have to worry about your key mappings on the terminal.

    I think that needs to be executed as part of the dialplan. In indications.conf I'd assume you need to alter the line

    country=us

    to

    country=uk

    In that guide you linked to where does it say to execute that command from the command line?

    It's implied, as the whole article is about editing indications.conf

    From a Mod i expect better! That sarcastic unhelpful attitude is not called for. As Domino says its implied it. As I said in post 1 “I am not a Linux guru so please bear with me.”

    Thats odd, the file is already set to the UK but the tones on the phones are not correct. It must be the phones doing it.

    on our Aastra phones the dial tone settings and ring tone settings are done on the handset config not the asterisk side.

    Well it is the phone that plays the tone and not the server, try a reboot of the server the phones.
