HP Launches new Zero Client

Last week 06/10/2011 HP announced a new WMS zero client the T200.

This access device can be connected to your multipoint servers either directly using usb or via it's network port.

The new product also sports 4 usb ports for connecting your keyboard and mouse and includes audio connections.

The suggested selling price is $99 which I think is fantastic allthough I'll wait and see what UK pricing is like.

This device is ideal for me as I can invisage me running all 3 mode of multipoint, direct connected, usb connected and ethernet connected depending on the situation.

Nice connectivity options for the price. I wonder if the optional power adaptor is included or you have to pay for it.

Nothing on the HP site to confirm or deny wether you get the adaptor in the box.

Availability from early Nov so as soon as I can get one I'll let you all know.

So from reading that correctly you have to connect it to the HP Multiseat machine? or just any machine running Multipoint?

If it is like the others then you can buy them and hook them up to any MPS system but the only way to get the drivers is to have an HP MPS box.

Everything in the documents so far talks about using them with the HP6200 multiseat solution however I wouldn't think it to be exclusively for that.

When using them in RDP ethernet mode no dirvers should be required on the multiseat host anyway.

If using them in usb connected mode then you'd need the drivers, the graphics chip inside will be either MCT or a Displaylink one anyway.

I'm guessing from the seperate part number that the PSU won't be in the box but it appears to be approx £12 so not bad.

Waiting for Dan @ Wstore to hear back from his HP account manager regarding UK pricing on this.

It would be interesting to see if they do tie it into having the HP multiseat box, hopefully they won't as this could be a great way to setup ICT suites on a budget.

Mutilpoint in quite intresting, think we will have to give this ago so, think we will need to get 20 new technology computers soon, so maybe 2 host computers? they don't really use much powerful cam software google sketch/2d design/ prodesktop 8


Question is:

ethernet (guessing third best option?)

or

usb (guessing second best option?)

or

usb and vga/dvi/hdmi/ to graphics card on host (guessing this is the best option?)

In my testing most I can get in direct gfx is 8 running 2 quad pcie x16 cards in 8x8 mode.

Usb would be next but ethernet offers flexibility.

Be aware that is does not handle OpenGL based stuff very well at all as it only supports software based 1.1 rendering. Usually not a problem unless you have some developer that tries to be 'clever'.

As above, directly connect moniters are the quickest followed by USB or ethernet depending on how good the thin client hardware is at the client end.

Took delivery of my first T200's today but been busy fighting with my other multipoint install not had a chance to try them out.

They are well made and do include a multi country psu.
