    Becta Tech News June 2007

    Becta have released the June edition of TechNews. This edition covers a variety of subjects including intrusion detection systems, mobile projector developments, one laptop per child and open source in the public sector.

    TechNews is a technology news and analysis service aimed at anyone in the education sector keen to stay informed about technology developments, trends and issues. TechNews focuses on emerging technologies and other technology news.

    Each issue contains news related to the following main subject areas:

    1. Networking and wireless
    2. Hardware
    3. Multimedia
    4. Software and internet

    Each subject area has a news section and a more detailed analysis piece which highlights the potential impact and likely future direction of a particular technology.

    TechNews is published every half-term and the next issue is published in September.

    It's nice to see wider coverage about IDS/NAC solutions. Security has been beyond most peoples horizons for far too long.

    The IPv4 address shortage is overstated. I wish people would stop repeating that worthless rumor. CIDR, NAT and IPv6 are sensible solutions to the problem, and we already have them.

    The other stuff didn't interest me that much, I guess I'm just a network guy at heart.
