This looks very interesting, and given that we have all, at one time or another been handed a computer or laptop that is so infected it barely boots, then Windows Defender Offline could be just the ticket. It's essentially a bootable (CD or USB) scanner that will dig out an infected Windows computer if it is too far gone (or risky) to connect to a network, and it will contain all of the very latest definitions (unlike other boot CD's). It's only in beta, but looks like a tool we'll all be getting familier with in the future.
What is Windows Defender Offline Beta?

10th December 2011, 09:58 AM #3 LOL. I missed that post (it was conf week and were a 'bit' busy!). I wonder why they are rebranding it? Perhaps the name change is to keep the product familiy all in line and then again as it's in beta perhaps they have introduced a few more features and functionallity.

15th December 2011, 07:59 AM #7 Give the teacher the link to Microsoft Safety Scanner - Antivirus | Remove Spyware, Malware, Viruses Free
and tell them to download it then run in in Safe Mode (It requires no installation) for a second opinion.
I've found it excellent at getting rid of malware.
