    Any device that allows you to receive a tv signal to a monitor or device that displays a picture is require that the person doing this has to own a tv license regardless of what they are veiwing.

    Correct - my question was regarding such feeds on the Internet, and whether they need a licence. Turns out that you don't, as the licence only applies to live reception of TV, not archived shows.

    Nick - according to the TVL people if you watch UK tv over the net you still need a license (so this would include the BBC multicast stuff and any live feeds on their site). They weren't sure about archived stuff though.

    Localzuk - as you say, that would include any LIVE feeds on their site. Archived stuff is different, according to the stuff which I read (although I can't cite my source now, as I read articles from so many different people!).

    That still leaves the question of things which are shown online before the TV (as BBC3 often do with comedy shows) but that's another question for another time...
