Software developers invited to create collaborative learning applications for SMART Table™
SMART Technologies announces the SMART Multi touch Application Contest, an opportunity for commercial and academic software developers to create multi-touch, multiuser applications for the SMART Table interactive learning centre. The contest is open to entrants from the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Mexico, Australia, China, India, the United States and Canada. Entrants may submit an application in one of two categories – commercial or academic. One grand prize winner from each category will receive one SMART Table interactive learning centre valued at £4,399. Qualified winning applications from both categories will also be promoted on SMART’s website for one year. The SMART Multi touch Application Contest is now open, and all completed submissions must be received by 06.00am GMT on Friday, July 2, 2010. For registration details and full contest terms and conditions, please see smarttech.com/multitouch.
Upon registration, contestants will be provided with the SMART Table software development kit and a library of video tutorials outlining best practices for development of multi-touch collaborative learning applications. Entries must incorporate multi touch functionality and support two to six simultaneous users. The applications must provide educational value for learners aged three to 14 by encouraging group collaboration rather than competition. A two-minute video recording of the application in use must also be uploaded to YouTube™ as part of the submission. One grand prize winner from each of the commercial and academic categories will be selected by a panel of judges made up of SMART staff. Submissions will be considered for their range of multi touch and multiuser features, creativity and innovation.
“As educators around the world continue to discover the benefits of using a SMART Table interactive learning centre in their classrooms, the demand for multi-touch, multiuser interactive learning applications grows with it,” says Nancy Knowlton, SMART’s CEO. “The SMART Multi-touch Application Contest will give software developers the opportunity to become part of the SMART ecosystem and share their educational applications with learners around the world.”
