with VMware you need to use bridged networking.

Used: workstation 7
created new VM - linux 32 bit - 2.6 kernel
256mb
bridged networking

don't let it boot and edit settings, removed drive,
added new drive by pointing to VMDK and off you go.

The hardcore linux fans wont like this!

I have the same problem

I'm told it needs an internet connection on boot, so bridged mode is probably best and give it as much RAM / CPU as you can.

Did you get it to work?? I'm still getting a blank screen

what if you are using a proxy? how do you add the settings in virtual box?

I don't think google have thought that far or they don't see a need for proxies as it's an os which is effectively out on the cloud

Had to rename the vdmk for VMware to decide is was worthy too!

Im at that point now, got it working on Workstation 6, but im behind a proxy... so it cant log me in :|

from first impressions it's not going to conqure the desktop or every day use market - only place to contend is netbooks and that's only of use there if you have a 3G built in.
