If i wanted to upgrade to the 10mb service it would cost me an extra 5. I said that the bundle deal was 14 and i already pay around 35 -40 now so why should i pay 3 times more than others. He said the deal was only for "Brand new customers only"

Those words are the shi**iest words ever invented. companies should not be allowed to implement changes and not give the changes to exisiting customers.

Oh and i can't cancel my contract because that department closes at 8. F***ing useless.

I am definitely looking into Be there now. Just need to know where my nearest exchange is.
ohh noooo. i call then and they very happy to upgrade me to 2mb to 10mb for free. this happend last week. call them again ask for them.

Just went to the website posted by @lionsl2005 - it says I have a modem which can handle 10Mbit so they will auto-upgrade within the next few days.

All very painless (except that I'd forgotten my ntlworld username and password but even sorting that out was pretty easy and completely automatic)

    So far so good ...

Virgin are not that bad IMO. I'm changing as soon as my contract runs out because of the upload speeds, and I can't stand their customer service, but their uptime in my area is brilliant (not had a single problem in that area) and I have a mesh VPN network set up with my house and a couple of other buildings which transfer a lot of data between them (basically syncing certain drives) to the extent I'm considering the best way to load balance it and there hasn't been any problems with doing this - no noticable throttling.

I am lucky to get 1 meg in leicester - only 3 miles out of city centre - too far from exchange - though I seen some virgin cable guys a mile down the road - maybe one day

Just checked my modem - it's looking good :-)

Not sure what I'll do with the extra bandwidth; 2 Mbit has never seemed like a problem but I'm sure that in a few years time I'll wonder how I ever managed with such a slow speed (and is it really only 20 years ago that modems were running at less than one thousandth of that speed)!

    Cable Modem Operation Configuration
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 10242000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 514000
