SMART Boards To Get Touch Recognition

SMART’s new Touch Recognition feature allows the board to recognize your touch and switch modes for you automatically. You can write with a pen, erase with your palm and move objects around with your finger without having to access other tools, buttons or on-screen menus.
    Next step multitouch.

SMART at BETT2009 just did not seem to have anything new to offer. It was same old same old again. The stand felt 'stale'. Plenty of teachers there though in a hypnotised state.

That's a bit of a let-down. Any idea if it needs new Smartboards, or if it's just a software thing?

If you touch the board with your finger while you have a pen in your hand your finger acts like the pen and draws on the screen.

It looks like a bit of software to detect whether the "nib" touching the board is narrow (so the pen in in contact), stubby (finger) or wide (side of the hand).

More info here. Feature is dependant on board having the most recent SC9 controller fitted and uptodate version of SMART notebook.

You weren't impressed by the t-shirts then?

Maybe I'm easily impressed but after watching that video it looks like it may actually be a worthwhile update even if it required swapping out the PCBs in existing boards (does anyone know the cost of this btw?).

If it genuinely works as smoothly as it does in the vid it would make the boards way more intuitive and quicker to use!

When did boards start coming with the SC9 controller? That'll give me an idea of which boards can support this.
