I just panicked when I about to wrap my daughters present up -a 500GB external drive (thats upped my geek credentials a bit - how many of you have bought your 15yr old princess such a thoughtful and wonderful Christmas present )

Anyway, I'd bought it at CostCo and when I've just looked at it - its Western Digital ...... PANIC.... cause I remembered this thread!!!!!

Anyway, panic over - The Register has the true story - whew!!!

I'd recommend reading The register article Si linked to...

It's eye opening and takes the wind out of the conspiracy theory sails rather quickly.

In Si's article, probably being a bit dense but does it matter what filing system you use ie if you use HFS+ versus NTFS or FAT32??
