I wonder how file sharing affects WD. If anything, I would've thought the more files people share, the bigger hard drives they need, and so on!

Im affraid WD has just jumped above Apple and Sony in my list of bad manufacturers, atleast for now anyway.

I just panicked when I about to wrap my daughters present up -a 500GB external drive (thats upped my geek credentials a bit - how many of you have bought your 15yr old princess such a thoughtful and wonderful Christmas present)
Anyway, I'd bought it at CostCo and when I've just looked at it - its Western Digital ...... PANIC.... cause I remembered this thread!!!!!
Anyway, panic over - The Register has the true story - whew!!!

In Si's article, probably being a bit dense but does it matter what filing system you use ie if you use HFS+ versus NTFS or FAT32??
