The quality of the mobile Office 365 experience leaves a lot to be desired, the lack of dedicated tablet apps is bizarre as well

The ModernUI apps are slowly turning back into standard ones; close button, minimise button, title bar, taskbar... all it needs is the maximise / restore control and the backtrack is complete

The Start screen improvements just go to show common sense isn't that common, how the power and search buttons weren't in 8.0 in the first place is a mystery to me - normal users were never going to find their way with them hidden from view.

Interesting about boot to desktop possibly being default, is Metro a dead duck? Just as I've grown to kinda like it... typical haha

They still have faith in their start screen then.

They are pulling the Nokia brand and pulling the phone bit from the Windows phone brand to make things even more easy to differentiate.

To early and it would have legitimized it on the other OSs, I never did get the hang of them on Linux or OSX, I just add more monitors. Good to see it there though.

I'm actually very okay with this new start menu and if it does end up like that I have no quarrel about upgrading my PC to 8.2/9. I honestly don't think there's anything wrong with TIFKAM in of itself, the concept isn't bad and I like the idea that tiles can update, it gives them much more functionality. I just think the fullscreen, using-swipes nonsense was terrible for desktop and laptop users.. On Win8 tablets it's surprisingly intuitive and I've found no trouble at all with it, even though I only got my hands on a Win8 tablet for the first time 2 days ago, I've had no trouble. In fact, desktop mode has given me more trouble due to the resolution, a lot of things you need to click on are a bit too small for my fingers.

I've got 3 monitors at home and at work, still massively want it though

I just hope it's dead simple to transition between them, and not some stupid edge of screen snap function (much much much perfer to press a button!)
