Nvidia creates an upgradable car platform

Now this looks smart: Ready for the car 2.0? Nvidia preps UPGRADABLE car system ? The Register

Imagine not wanting to get a new car until v2.0 of the dash comes out!
Mind you, I'll give it 10 years before we have forums full of 'I've bricked my car' posts by 17 year old new drivers. Or once your car is no longer supported people putting Cyanogenmod for cars v1.0 on there.

Looks great, however I wonder if manufacturers are really going to want to give you any excuse not to buy a new car to get the latest features?

id be more worried that in 10 years time some part of the dash dies and replacements are more expensive than the car like some early ecu cars not to mention i cant see the screen lasting 10+ years

Imagine being half way through a long journey and...'Your car may be a victim of piracy' followed by your not being able to do more than 30mph and having a blacked out dash.
