Apple vs Samsung: $1,051,855,000 fine for Samsung

    That's a lot of money!

Apple v. Samsung verdict is in: $1 billion loss for Samsung
A jury of seven men and two women has just read the Apple v. Samsung verdict to a packed courtroom--and it was all bad news for Samsung. The Korean electronics giant has been found to infringe all of Apple's utility patents and all but one of the four design patents asserted, and was ordered to pay more than $1.05 billion in damages to Apple.

That's substantially less than the $2.75 billion Apple asked for, but still a huge sum that may stand as the largest patent verdict of all time. It gives Apple a huge leg up in the corporate patent wars, and immeasurably strengthens the company's negotiating position vis a vis the Android phones it is struggling against.

Apple's three utility patents, all found infringed, cover features like double-tapping to zoom, and the "bounce back" that snaps images back into place. Apple's four design patents cover elements like the contours and shape of the iPhone.

The jury also rejected Samsung's arguments that the patents were invalid. Samsung escaped punishment on only one of Apple's patents, a design patent asserted only against two Samsung tablets.

Samsung's counterattack against Apple, using six of its own patents, went nowhere. The jury found they weren't infringed. (Source)
The damages, by device, are as follows:

$57 million for the Samsung Prevail
    $44,792,974 for the Infuse 4G
    $53,123,612 for the Mesmerize
    $3,350,256 for the Replenish
    $954,060 for the Transform

Yeah. I don't think Samsung will have any problems paying.

The number of smartphones and tablets designed by lawyers will probably increase however.

Sigh. They can both grow up and GTFO in my opinion, I'm fed up of hearing about these legal battles. I will reiterate an opinion I have constantly - the world would be massively better off without Apple or companies like Apple, but not without the products.
Imagine if Apple products weren't so - well, Apple.
Apple can go sit in the corner with politicians and world leaders.

Its gonna be a bad time for Apple, as the iPhone is essentially Samsung parts, with an iPhone logo, and iOS. Samsung said that they could withdraw the contract, and Apple are screwed as no other company could produce what they wanted to Samsungs quality. In the long run this ruling hurts Apple.

But they won't, the accountants an lawyers will keep pandering to the angry child that is Apple just to keep the cashflow going, if only to pay Apple tax as implemented by their pet country, the US of Apple.

They should both be booted from the market until they learn to play nice.
