Just recently our externally-hosted Moodle installation is _slow_. The database is clean, and runs beautifully on in-house servers (<0.2 seconds to load any page).
Turning on debugging reveals pages taking up to 30-40seconds to load and everything is pointing to a bottleneck at fasthosts.
Having contacted Fasthosts, their response: "it's shared business hosting", despite me pointing out that even on shared hosting, it shouldn't take 30 seconds to locate data in a 15mb database and spew it out on the page.
When the helldesk person tested the site, they got a 2 second page load time using their inhouse network and 40 seconds load time using an external dsl connection.
Their engineers are apparently looking into it.
Is anyone else experiencing problems and have you ever weaselled information about customer per server / performance metrics from fasthosts?

You mean like EduGeek?
EduGeek uses Fasthosts and we have decided that the database server is a little poor. We are load balanced across 6 web servers but the single database server seems to be the weak point.

@Ric: yeah, I know edugeek uses them, that's partly why I posted here
@Edenalig: no, if they don't get back to me with something concrete by 5pm I'll chase them again and get hold of one.
