    Ruckus Wi Fi

Contemplating getting an airport extreme 5th gen, but then remembered there was someone ( think from CP LTD ) or otherwise who mentioned about one of the Ruckus products that did dual band wifi 2.4ghz and 5ghz etc, does it have gigabit ports on it or would I need a separate switch ?

Also how much for said ruckus item ?

Well the Zone Director (central management console) and the wireless access points would plug into your existing infrastructure, so you'd need your switches to be gigabit one(s) if you want to run more than the older 10/100mb connectivity (also POE if required).

Both the ZoneFlex 7363 and the 7343 can do concurrent 2.4GHz and 5GHz, personally I'd go for the 7363 as it has a little more features/options than the 7343 - but it does depend on what you're looking for. We set this kit up in a primary school and they've had no problems with their wireless. We're starting to trial their kit at our place (secondary school).

As for how much the kit is, it's depends on your supplier. I believe the first supplier that you contact will be the best price, but not 100% sure.

Also just be careful, not all of their kit are N grade (eg ZoneFlex 2741 and the ZoneFlex 2942). Added to that, not all of their WAP have the same user throughput (some have 300mbps, others have up to 600mbps).

And if you go for a different brand, watch out as some will say that they are dual band, but not concurrent (they can only run at 2.4GHz mode or 5GHz mode at any one time).

I think ruckus do some "standalone" type units that do what you are asking for rather than a full zone director type install. Look for Ruckus Mediaflex.
