Ruckus Wifi

I am looking at Ruckus Wifi for our school. Search through threads here people mention it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that alternative systems have. But what are they? what benefit do they have?

From the reviews and user feed back, Ruckus seems very good but I don't want to go and buy it and then find in the future that a feature is missing.

I've not really found anything lacking in my Ruckus system.
I compared it with lots of others (Aruba, Meru, Motorola, Cisco, Xirrus... etc) and for what I required I couldn't see any features that were lacking.

What do you want the system to do?

The whistles I know of that don't exist are things like IPSec VPNs built into the AP's, so you can take an AP off site, and set up a remote VPN without any faffing, device tracking via built in software (although, this can be done via a third party system working with it).

That's about it as far as I know! To be honest, those bells and whistles are entirely unnecessary in schools.

Its for things where you can pinpoint where people are within your building, by triangulating their signal via your AP's.

Definitely don't want that... I can just see SLT thinking it would be a good way of tracking us down when we're not at our desks!

I thought you could now do device tracking? The map view (if you populate it) will trianglulate the device. @MarkPower can you confirm for me?

Isn't that mapping of APs rather that wireless clients?

The reason why Ruckus Wifi is great is bc it uses "dynamic beamforming," which basically means that the wifi signal can find the path of least resistance. It makes for stronger, more reliable signal in general. It's most useful in problematic wifi environments with lots of metal, glass, or interference; works wonders on crowded NYC offices and hospitals and the like. The reason why schools tend to like it is that it's also affordable - less AP's with same signal = less money.

Why not ask CP Limited about availability of their Ruckus demo kit, and actually try it out within your school environment?
