Does anyone currently use or have any recommendations on GSM handsets with built in wifi that can be used for wifi voip?
I've been looking at the Pirelli WIFI Voip phone which also has built in gsm but then realised that the nokia E70 etc... also do wifi sip.

You could always opt for a PDA phone with wifi and install a VOIP app.

I could do but don't really want all the overhead of a windows mobile etc... device.

Re: Combined WIFI/GSM Phones
Nokia are coming up with some good stuff in the coming months so I would look in that direction.
As Ric says you can use a PDA with a client. This will work but WiFi does kill the battery pretty fast on a PDA/Windows mobile which could be a n issue.
I believe the nokias are going to be more suited to the wireless environment. Its still pretty early days on the SIP front but I suspect longer term this will be the best way to go.
cheers, Tom

Re: Combined WIFI/GSM Phones
This is what I have two, only under the XDA rebranding of O2.
They are actually made by HTC and rebranded by the networks (though I think i-mate might be their own brand now)
Windows mobile is handy for the number of apps/email etc. Is dead slow to boot thou and can throw a paddy from time to time
Still couldnt live without it thou, far better than a backberry IMHO

I find myself clearing the memory before I launch such programs as Tom Tom and wish it was a little thinner
but it's worth it. I will be getting something similar and faster whent eh time comes to swap.

Moi aussi (MDA Vario on T-Mobile)
All that's missing is a simple way of switching proxies on the Wi-Fi

I am just about to change from an XDA2 to an XDA 2S. I love the XDA2 and hope the 2s is just as good.

I had my PDA and find it's good for scheduling/diary etc... and the wifi works well in range of AP's but I'm not looking to replace it with something that is a phone as well.
Thats why I'm looking for a phone with gsm and wifi and may go for one of the nokias voip wifi phones should be coming out in droves this year.

Well I said I didn't want a pda/phone however just seen the new HP iPAQ 514 voice messenger in this months pc pro.
£147'ish for a windows mobile 6 powered phone with wifi and quad band gsm and includes an inbuilt sip client.
It could probably replace my axim which is mainly used for calendar functions and a few apps.
