Just wanted to know if anyone used any SMS gateways to allow teachers to send text messages from email systems. We have looked into schoolcoms but not sure on it.
Any ideas?

It may be worth mentioning that Exchange Server 2007 with Outlook 2007 will support this shortly in the UK, its not avalable yet due to no UK SMS partners signing up for it, but MS are expecting to sort this out shortly I believe so it may be worth if you use Exchange and Outlook waiting for this as it may be easier for you and cheaper than getting another new product in.
We have started using Truancy Call but they also do this which we will try after christmas: http://www.callparents.com/

Ross: why would you want to do this?
Ben

woody we have had truancy call and call parents for over a year now. I have had no reports from our PLO truancy officer as to how it is working so i take it from this that all is well or we are no longer using it. pretty easy to setup and implement.

Ross2k5, woody just an update having spoken to our Attendance officer she says it saves her and our exams officer tons of work and creates time for other duties.
I don't know if you use SIMS.net for you management system? You can integrate a system called SchoolComms into it. I haven't tried it, does anyone know whether it's any good ?
i have just set up a liberum job logging system for our caretakers, but its difficult for them to get to a computer, the obvious answer is sms to their work mobiles. We have exchange 2003 and unlikely to upgrade any time soon. any sms solution has to involve exchange.
We are now looking into sending SMS message to parents, SchoolCOMMS seems to be the best we seen at BETT. Does anybody have any pro's / con's in using this sort of system especially SchoolCOMMS.
Thanks
