Does anyone have a ping utility that can keep pinging an ip address, perhaps every 15 minutes and send an email if a reply is received. I'm trying to find out when a device is being plugged into the network.
Any other way of doing it would also be appreciated.

I did a no ping utility you could loop:

Yeah got that already monitoring all the systems, but I want it the other way round instead of sending an email when a host goes down, I want it to send it when a host goes up, suppose I could just tell it to send a down message once then it will send a message when it comes back up.
Should of thought of that

8th December 2009, 06:08 PM #8 Very good little utility, has a completely free mode too: Server monitoring tools | Monitoring network software.
No idea if it's better or worse than Ozan's my little server monitor, it's just my recommendation because I've used it.

Blat complicated ? Pi55 easy to use in my opinion.
Example:
Code:
blat -body "No Ping Automated E-mail - see attached log file" -to test@domain.org.uk -cc test2@domain.org.uk -subject "No Ping Report" -server smtp.blueyonder.co.uk -u USERNAME -pw PASSWORD -f FROM@DOMAIN.co.uk -attachi "E:\CMDs\no ping log.txt"

8th December 2009, 11:26 PM #11 OK Matt - but just look at the various switches available in blat.exe compared with bmail.exe! I realise it means that blat.exe is more flexible than bmail.exe in what it can do.
I just tried the line that you provided (making the relevant changes) and I got it to work. Goodness knows how many times I tried various permutations before.

Hey, at least you got it to work - that's the main thing. It's onwards and upwards now !!

9th December 2009, 12:37 AM #13 We use a bit of software called ping utility, it takes 6 minutes to cycle our 170 devices it monitors, mainly our firewalls and a select few servers, can often come back to some 1000 plus emails after the weekend if they have been doing work at one of our sites. I will dig the details out of it later.

Should of thought of that

It's the recovery event you want to alert on in this case.
