Brain is clicking away...I've got a puzzle with my laptop/wireless setup and am trying to think of a solution. Just something to save me time... So, correct me if im wrong here cus that's highly likely.
Problem:
We've got a few wireless AP's scattered around the school, they all have the same WEP but different names. So, this is where the problem makes itself known...If teacher/kid uses a laptop in a different parts of the school it obviously picks up the nearest AP....but this means me having to walk around and make every AP known to the laptops.....
My Possible solution:
Rename all the AP's to have the same name and WEP.....but they'd have to be on different channels wouldnt they?
Proper Solution....
Add you obvious answer here! lol
Hmmm
Thanks
Your solution is the proper solution - they should all have the same ssid and security settings, but different channels.
Ideally you'd like a nice managed system, whereby you just change it on the main controller and it takes care of the rest of it, but with what you've got what you have suggested is the best solution.

Oh, ok lol.....i was waiting for someone to point out something really silly that i'd missed!
Thanks
here we have loads of wireless access points netgear wg302s i just set them all to automatic channel selection and we have had no problems at all.
kids can teachers can connect anywhere.
we just use the the one ssid for everything.
D
Your solution is definately the way I'd do it.
Only other thing to consider may be:
Do you have a mix of wireless types on laptops? (what I'm getting at is do your laptops vary between wireless A/B/G/n etc or are they all the same).
If they are all the same it is nice and easy - if it is a mix and the AP supports multiple SSIDs then split the wireless types off into different SSID's where possible and make the A laptops connect to the A SSID and the B ones to the B SSID etc.
Good luck
