How do you setup a wireless router?

I've never done it before and need help setting up a belkin wireless router to broadband.

RTFMing is always a good start. Most have a simple web interface for initial setup. What exact problem are you having?

Generally speaking (this is a rough guide, but in principle the same for any router)

- Plug in power and one ethernet cable from the router to your PC.
- Open up Internet Explorer and type either: 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 and you'll then see a security window. Enter the default username and password (see the manual for this).

You should then see something along the lines of 'Basic Settings' where you can enter your broadband username and password. This is typically a bunch of random letters or numbers. Remember to save/apply settings.

Then look for something along the lines of 'Wireless Network'. Give your wireless a name SSID:, (but nothing that can identify you directly), then choose the type of security. It's recommended you choose either WPA or WPA2. Enter the passphrase which will be the required key to access your network. It's recommended you use alphanumeric characters.

In XP/Vista you should then be able to browse/search for your wireless network, enter the security key and there's your wireless network. As long as you see a secure padlock, you're safe knowing you have correctly applied security to your network.

If you can successfully setup your wireless connection (between your computer and Access Point), but you get no internet, double check your broadband username and password are correct, otherwise you won't be able to surf. I hope this helps.

I did it this way, it was a ADSL router, and it did everything you said, thanks for all your help.
