Explorer toolbars
Internet explorer version 6 toolbars are beggining to get my goat.
We run ECDL courses at my school and toolbars are blocking the website required for the students to logon to the site.
The toolbars mainly in question are the msn toolbars, the msn desktop search bar, starware bar. Google is okay except clashes with others.
Is there a group policy control element that can enable me to stop these types of downloads.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
JayR

Block the installers on your proxy. Pay attention when installing things like Acrobat/realplayer that bundle these sorts of things.

There is an option in the windows registry which disables the toolbars in IE (it is the registry key for the option in IE advanced options: "Allow third party tool bars"). We simply made it so that registry key was disabled when the students and teachers logged in. It has solved a lot of problems. It took a bit of time to get it working, but it works like a charm now.
I don't know what the GPO was though, as I didn't make it, but I know it took ages for the guy who did make it to get it working correctly. There are two keys in the registry that both seem to be for the toolbars in IE. Only one actually works, so i'd just do some googling
Or else, make them all use firefox, hehe.
