Disconnect insecure building over holidays?

We'll be extending our network into the sheds (old pseudo-portacabin classrooms) this term and I'm concerned about leaving live network connections in fairly insecure, unalarmed buildings over the holidays. The school grounds are covered by CCTV, but prevention is better than a cure.

I'm considering unplugging the fibre links in the server room. Does anyone else do this?

I sometimes disconnect some if there are private lettings in a building where there may be somebody who may just bring a laptop with them and try plugging it in, but normally they stay in all year.

If you are too lazy to unplug the fibre, you could just disable the port using the switch's web UI.

What are you concerned about? someone breaking in and using your Internet connection over the holiday?

Kinda, if you substitute "nosing around our network" for "Internet" (though I admit it's unlikely). We also rent out rooms (like John said), and I have no reason to trust the people letting them.

I'm unhappy about allowing network access in an unsecure location when there's no-one around to prevent nefarious activities.

What about CCTV? And presumably you have some sort of web filtering? Couldn't you monitor internet access and simply ban people from using the rooms again if they abuse the network access?
