I have had a request from some of the admin team if it is possible to have a calender that all staff can access and use for sharing dates of assignments, exams, and excursions etc. Does anyone use something like this on your networks and if so what is it. I have thought of a web based browser but we do not run seperate admin and student domains so I'm not sure how to make it staff view only?
Any help greatly appreciated!

Exchange/Outlook perhaps? - OR Alternatively if you use Windows Server 2003 - you can install SharePoint [free edition] which has built in Calendars which you can restrict to certain AD groups and integrates seamless with AD!

We have our own exchange server on site, with all staff having email, Though only a few use outlook, the rest only have OWA. I did think about sharing calenders through Outlook, but need something simplier (yes some of the staff are that useless with computers!)

Always thought that we needed a licence for sharepoint. Might be worth looking into.

31st August 2008, 11:33 AM #5 zimbra, exchange (and horde I think) do this - alternatively there are a bunch of web apps that would also do what you want such as:
eGroupWare: Home
phpgroupware.org :: phpGroupWare
google groupware.

You don't need a license if you already use Windows Server 2003 - Download details here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

2nd September 2008, 11:12 AM #11 Do you use SIMS?
If you do and everyone has access to it the school diary could be a starting point?

2nd September 2008, 12:12 PM #13 Sharepoint would be my fav - especially as you can set permissions per ad group, it doesn't require a seperate login and you can set it as your intranet.
plus once you start using it the possibilities grow... and its free (barring something to run it on)

I will look into Sharepoint more. I have a server I think I could run it off without too many problems.
