hi,
A problem started yesterday on rm CC3 network. users inculding teachers can log onto some workstations but cant log onto other workstations, error in authenticating the password. other users can log onto workstations which are rejecting passwords. users which are rejected can log onto other workstations in same room. no changes have been made to the servers or network before the problem started. i have restarted the servers and switches no luck, problem is accross all the rooms. RM wont answer because we dont pay for their expensive support contract. any help would be greatly appreciated
thank you
I don't have an RM network and I know nothing about them, but I've had similar password problems on our AD setup.
I've found resetting the affected users' passwords will clear it up though.
An messages in the error log?
thanks for the replies. changing passwords hasnt helped
the error is
Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded. Check that you are connected to the network, or that your network is functioning correctly. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.
DETAIL - The operation completed successfully.

THE SECOND ERROR IS
Windows cannot copy file \\chs-sr-002\RMTeacherProfiles\sdavies\NTUser.dat to location C:\Documents and Settings\sdavies\NTUser.dat. Possible causes of this error include network problems or insufficient security rights. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.
DETAIL - Access is denied.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Looks like profile corruption or a permission issue. Have you tried cleaning of the locally saved profiles?
Try deleting the local profiles from the affected machines.
Have you checked disk space?
Are all your work-areas on the same server?
After you've cleaned the profiles and removed them from the affected machines run the Health Check program on the users too this may take some time depending on how many users are affected!
Do certain PCs allow no-one to log in? If so these may just have to be rebuilt as the easiest alternative! I've experienced several computers doing this for no reason and they were working earlier in the day too!
Wes
RM caches up to the last 1000 logins.
Check the network connection - Login as SystemAdmin "ping chs-sr-002".
If you can ping, delete the local profiles from the machines.
Try healthchecks and profile resets on the server.
Check disk space on servers and on workstations.
If you have multiple servers - it could be that the other server is authenticating the login but the profile is on a server with a faulty NIC.
