    Help with switch

Im having a bit of bad morning. I am trying to set up a netgear switch with two network address' on two different networks and then assign 8 ports to one network and 16 to another. Is this even possible? Switch is Netgear FSM726S.

I might just be being really thick but all hell has broken loose as we have the dreaded call from OFSTED.

    Cheers

    Dan

VLAN should seperate the two networks, you should be able to assign which ports to which network. am just wondering why 2 ip address for the switch???

I take it there on different subnets? I have to admit am not as good at this as others on the board, am just trying to get my head around what your setup is. Do you want to be able to be plugged into Network "A" and acces something on Network "B" or do you have 2 network cards on your machine and you do it that way?

You should create a VLAN for each network on the switch, and then assign each port to the approiate vlan.

    Yeh 2 different subnets.

Internal network subnet 255.255.248.0 goes through an isa server so all my access is the same as the kids.

external netowkr subnet 255.255.255.0 is directly onto county lan as i have run a long bit of cable direct from the office into the county router.

The internal network is dhcp with a reservation and external network has to be static ip. 1 network card on machine, i will just be moving cable from one port to another as its next to me, i have set up alternate configs and it auto detects when i move networks.

    Hope that clears it up.
