Hello,
I'm wondering how people have configured their VM's in ESX to shutdown in an event of a power failure? Since I've got the Network Shutdown option for my UPS server I could install the client agent in each machine and configure it that way and also install it on the ESX Physical Host as well. The other method which might be best is to use the inbuilt system in ESX to automatically startup and shutdown machines. Has anybody used this?
Thanks,
Rob
I'm using the buit in option to power down the guests, you do have to set it for each vm though. The default option has no effect unless it's also set for auto start (which I don't use). The apc software is running on my esx hosts and initiates the shutdown.

I use VMware server, when the host computer shuts down the virtual machine automatically shuts down.
ah beat me to it![]()
Ok thanks!
Which version of the software did you use to installed on VMWare ESX (we have 3.5), I've looked on APC's website and can't find an ESX specific version of the software?
Thanks,
Rob
ESX version has gone awol from apc site, I'm using this on 3.0, but hopefully it will still work on 3.5
ftp://ftp.apc.com/apc/public/softwar...cns/221vmware/
Any chance you can re-up that version?
I am using ESXi 4.0, plugged into an APC UPS without a network card.
Is this feasible?
