wireless network conection problems

In the school i work in we have wireless laptops that connect to a domain called curriculum. most students will be able to log on straight away but some get the error message curriculum not available. The laptops network connection is working and restarting the laptop normally gets it to connect but this is annoying as it should work first time. The only thing i can think of is that the laptop is trying to connect to a different Wireless access point from the room the laptops were last used in. is their a solution to stop this error please.

It could be that the students are trying to log on before the laptop has had time to connect to an access point. When you first turn the laptops on and the login box displays give the laptops a minute or two before logging in and seeing whether or not that makes a difference.

This happens to a few of our laptops now and again as well.

It's usually when a lot of laptops are trying to connect at the same time - a few just don't make it through. By the time they have re-started, the rest are connected so the few that were re-started are fine.

This gives the appearance that a re-start solved the problem, when in fact it was just a case of waiting a few minutes until the other laptops had connected.

Now we know that, we advise that teachers have their pupils turn on/log in to laptops in groups of 6 (works out 1 table at a time), as that ensures that the WAPs dont get overloaded and there have been no "domain not available" problems since then.

I also advise this and where this approach is taken it works a treat. The laptops do try to connect to the last AP they encountered but if left until the device has fully negotiated then a log on is successful.

change the setting in a GPO to tell the machines to wait for the network before showing the logon screen, this forces the wireless to connect
