If your school has the budget, I would recommend a 3rd party system.
We use websence running on an ISA server, its centrally updated with the latest ban lists.
I havn't got a clue on costings as our network manager and head of it deal with it, but it works very well. Although any game playing we see over and above this we treat as a classroom control issue. The kids tend to bring .swf games in on data pens

We also use websense with ISA it does job. We don't have to add that many new sites to the blacklist.

You can also download squidguard lists from many sources... and then import these into ISA with some clever scripting.
