Home Folder "Access Denied" Message

Hi All this is my first time on the forum and first post!, i am in a bit of a pickle....i have a strange problem on my network at the moment, when a user logs on the home folder is mapped via AD but at random times a "access Denied" message is given. This is totally random with any user on any PC....if they log off then back on again it works! staff and kids take seperate profiles and seperate Group Policies. also there are no errors in event viewer on either the pc or server. any help would be good.

If there are no errors could it be a network problem? Or a corrupt profile being saved on a local machine?

What client OS are you running ? And is this happening after 15 mins of non client activity ?

If you can get on the server - go to a command line and type 'net config server'
The idle time is most probably set to 15 mins.
To up the time type

net config server /autodisconnect:VALUE (minutes)

Stick it up to say 30 mins and try again and see if a client disconnects after 30 mins. If it does - set it to what you want.

You can disable the setting altogether, but I would not suggest you do that.

The client OS is XP sp2 with server 2k3 R2, the access denied is straight away so it is not an idle issue, they log off and straight back on again and it works.

Are you using the fast boot policy / option on the XP client ?

Comp Config --> Admin Template --> System --> Logon --> Always Wait For The Network At Computer Startup And Logon

If not, enable it.

Have you limited the ammount of connections someone can make to their home drive? I've found that sometimes a pupil's last 'log off' sometimes fails or just doesn't happen.
Put the connection limit up a wee bit and see if that sorts it.

I can't seem to find this setting in GP could you give me an idea of where it is?

The connection limit setting is part of the share properties dialog.

Where are you looking ? I have an OU with our stations in......
The GPO is:

Computer Configuration --> Administrative Template --> System --> Logon --> Always Wait For The Network At Computer Startup And Logon
