Restoring DNS

Anyone help with this?

This afternoon our curriculum dc crashed and took the dhcp and dns. have got the server running but the dns is still trashed. Is there anyway I can copy the dns files form our admin dc which acted as the secondary dns server over to the curriculum server?

Is this 2000 or 2003.

Was dns not running as active directory integrated then?

There should have been but the school had but when the school was moved over to our county broadband recently, their wonderful engineer for some stupid reason disabled the system state backup before reconfiguring the network. Don't ask me why as I was off ill when this was done. I only found this out when I went to try this. and it restored it back to the pre-migration settings. How do I know this you ask...... I went and checked the dates of the files and they dated the day before the migration..............

Am I glad that I'm leaving this half assed school. so I have had to rebuild the DNS from scratch what away to spend a friday evening............... :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:

Problem is the network is my responsibility until 30th January 2008. So I cannot walk away from it till then. Also my professionalism will not allow me to.

DHCP takes 2 seconds to rebuild from scratch.

DNS can just be re-installed and enter all the correct details and it should rebuild itself as well.

In the future I would recommend a 2nd DNS server as a backup. You can even enter the settings in DHCP so when it falls over there wont be a problem logging on.

The admin server is supposed to act as a secondary dns server like this server acts as a secondary dns server for the admin one. Problem is that that our county support people reconfigured them both when they did the migration to the county broadband system and lkooks like they screwed them up.

On the plus side it is all working for now....................
