Log off policy randomly not applying

We are having a weird issue where randomly log off policy does not apply and run the log off scripts we set. We are not sure when it started doing this but the strange thing is no error is reported anywhere including the server. As far as I can tell there is no reason it has not ran the scripts and there seems to be no pattern of machines doing it yet. The users that have logged on have ran the log on scripts without issue which are part of the same policy but when they log off nothing runs. If they log into the same machine again it will *probably* work the next time but like I say its random when it fails.
FYI we are running 2000 server DC's and it there seems to be no replication issues logged so far.

Any ideas?

what are your logoff scripts doing?

Various things but they are not even being executed at all as no entries are made by them which they usually do. If it was a scripting error in one I would expect the rest to run anyway and it certainly would not be randomly working.
