Fiber switch connection
I've just started at a new school and have to get my head around the whole topography and setup. One of the first jobs is to get hold of a new gigabit switch as we have run out of ports. Now I feel like a complete plonka here but my fiber experience is zero so I apologise now! We have a DES6000 component switch which the server and a few fiber links are patched into, there is 1 free SC/SX port free in a 6006 module. I am on a very tight budget and want to buy a D-Link DGS-1224T to connect an Xserve via link aggregation. Now can I just get a patch lead and connect the SC port on the 6006 to an lc connector via 311gt gbic module on the DGS-1224T? I also have another DGS-1224T about 10m away so can I use gbic modules and a long LC patch lead to connect the 2? Sorry, seems so much easier with cat5!!
