I ask as I have some new machines which I am currently "smartclienting" so I want to convert some of the old machines back to plain XP.
Has anyone done this?
Thanks

I don't think its possible, not least without much messing around.
Format and re-install the operating system.
Oh well, it was worth a shot!:D
I would format and re-install Windows too. You'll then be guaranteed there's no CC3 on there at all.
yeah we have some laptops that are just connected through the domain. Just whack XP on and connect to your domain. voila.. people can access their work off plain ol' computer.
Yeah - definately a format and reinstall as webman says.
CC3 puts so much sh*t on there it would be impossible to roll back to Vanilla without a format.
Rebuild the PC in the usual way, except when asked for the PC's location, enter the three-letter site code incorrectly. This will install XP from your build area, and then fail when it starts to put the RM stuff on. Saves you trying to find your XP install CDs.
Its possible to remove the logon screen, log on locally and remove from the network by doing the following:
Log on to the station connected to the network.
Click Start -> Run -> Regedit
Hit F3 and search for a key called "ginadll"
Delete this key
Restart the machine
Voila. You now have a machine which acts as if it is off the network.
I found if you have the smartclient factory image still on the HDD, restore back to that and at the part where you are supposed to click the 'shutdown' button in the top corner just shut down windows using Start > Shutdown and you get a nice clean XP installation.
Saved loads of time where we would normally have to install from the CD.
One more method for you, if it helps.....
REM out the line that starts:
start /wait msiexec /i "RM Commissioning Utilities.msi"... in the getcom.bat file that you will find here:
<server name>\rmrebuild\XPBuild\i386\$OEM$\$1\getcom.bat
This will stop your CC3 build post XP install and pre CC3 cr*p.
Cheers!
