Moving away from CC4

We are currently on RM CC4.2 with mostly new workstations and Windows 7.

We are looking at moving away from RM to a virtual vanilla solution around summer 2014, and could do with a little help in planning:

What are the first things to do/set up?
Are there any free altarnatives to the RMMC that write back to AD?
Does anyone know of any companies that specialise in moving from RM to vanilla?
Does anyone know a good vanilla support company, who have similar support to RM such as online-ticketing, the option of a remote session?
Can you migrate packages from CC4 to vanilla?

...has anyone got any general advice/tips for us?

I'm just trying to get a general feel of how difficult it will be for us!

You could try these guys Burconix - Professional ICT Solutions for Education and SME pretty much cover everything you are looking for, help you move to a Virtual Vanilla Environment, I know they have moved over migrated a few RM Networks and other Managed Service schools, provide remote support, have their own set of Tools to add some functionality to a vanilla environment if you want, ticket system, telephone support etc. Feel free to PM us if you want a look as you are in Birmingham.

Interesting... Do you use this company yourself?

I do use these for a few things usually large projects (Virtualisation, Managed Wireless etc), I also have used their management software for a few years now and have used these at the two schools I have worked at, they have been excellent about three schools in our Borough use them for various and diffrent things.

We did all the work ourselves in-house, apart from configuration of SAN's etc.
MS EES Agreement, Enterprise Clients, Server 2008R2 Hyper-V hosts, 2008R2 Native Domain, and System Centre Enterprise Suite to manage Win7 Enterprise clients.
SAved us £40K plus on what RM wanted to charge for a move from CC3 to CC4.
Now costs us approx £8K per year for MS EES agreement.
Bare Metal to working desktop, with all applications installed, 40mins on a Core2Duo, 30minc Core i3.


If you don't want to do it yourself, nViron in Runcorn are very good.

We used a company called Ergo (based in Nottingham) to move away from the RM CC3 network to a new vanilla network. They were very good at explaining how they were going to migrate different services etc and i found the engineers to be very well knowlegeable. They have migrated lots of school from RM CCx network and hence they are very experienced in this area. It worth a meeting or call to discuss your requirements and see what they come up with.

Is that the same Ergo that do the laptops for schools deal? Pay over the odds for an average spec laptop but it comes with a no quibble warranty?
