network share issue
Looking for a bit of help here or even if this is possible the way i want to do it.
We have a curiculum server which works and the office staff computers are just a workgroup they just log on to the pc's not the domain. This was how i was when i took over.
One of the admin machines has a folder which is shared to all the other admin machines just a mapped drive. Which does mean that the computer has to be on all the time for these to be accesed.
My thoughts were to copy this folder over to the server and share it that way.
Is it possaible to do that if the only people that needs to access the folder are not in active directory?
I have no trouble copying the data or making the folder its just how will the share work?
copy data to server
create an account that can access it and assign folder permissions accordingly
write a batch file to run at startup on the workgroup pcs something like
NET USE F: \\server\share$ /PERSISTENT:NO /user:domain\user password
Whats the reccomended way to get a batch file to run at startup?
Could save the .bat file in the Startup Folder - under all users on C:\
this is by far the easiest way. but you could add the location of the bat file to the windows run directory in the regedit. its a little more complicated but works just as well.
