Printing Questions

Hopefully I haven't posted this in the wrong forum and apols if this has been asked before - appeciate if you could indulge me. I'm trying to get a handle on printing costs of a typical secondary school. Basically these are my questions ...

What are the average number of pages printed per month using a classroom based BW laser / Colour laser?
In your experience - How many pages does cartrige (BW & Colour) actually produce?

Then ...

Same question but for admin/staff printers.

Talk about open ended!
It all depends on the printer as to the costs of consumables and what deals you are getting, originals or compatibles...
How much printing is allowed in the classroom... Is there a print quota system in place....
We have a print management system in place to make the students think before they print and it reduces waste 10 fold.
Most printers are fairly small types, like a HP 2300 or similar. A typical cartridge may give 6000 sheets of black.
Colour is mostly limited to repro and the admin offices, and library.
Some admin offices have the old fashioned HP LJ 4000 and they are awesome beasts, 10k sheets per cartridge, which can stretch to 15k if they don't have much coverage.

This really is difficult to answer.

What is your setup at the moment? How do you currently control printing, or is it a free for all? It'd probably be easier to post your current stats and then look at how that can be reduced.

I'm just trying to get an angle on duty cycle - vs recommended print volumes. For instance you can get printers with published duty cyles in the hundreds of thousands of pages - yet a recommended monthly print of only several thousand pages. It a big difference!

The only way you will get an idea is if you check the number of copies printed on one date and then do it one month later.

I have the difference of around 30k between two departments!!
