lanview server from mst software
pc file recovery
ubcd a bootable utilty disk
A Kbuntu Desktop install disk.
Im quite partial to Northern's Storage Suite and Symantec's Ghost Solution Suite. I also anticipate Faronics' Deep Freeze will become a much loved bit of kit once I've tested it properly.
ZenWorks..........

Ghost
Partition Manager
Several Knoppix type CDs
And although you said software I think every techy should have a portable USB hard Drive and USB floppy for when network booting/cloning fails.
regards
Simon
Day-to-day I use Partition Manager and Impero quite a lot. In particular, Impero has saved me a lot of time and effort when I need to do something small to a lot of computers - but it does come at a price (other, similar, software is available).
Also a USB Drive with file recovery software and other little gizmos is very useful.

All freely available:
Recovery CDs such as UBCD, SystemRescueCD and Knoppix. This includes memtest86 which, um.. tests memory
A decent text editor is a must - with line numbers for editing config files. On Windows - Notepad++ or metapad.
WinSCP and PuTTY for administering Linux and BSD machines from windows.
A decent web browser such as Firefox
Then there's computer virtualisation - VMWare Server.
Hirens Boot CD 8.9
Symantec Ghost
Ultimate Boot CD
ERD Commander
VNC Viewer
LanSpy
GFi Languard
LanHound

ZenOK Free Antivirus has served me well as a free anti-virus program.
I recommend Malwarebytes for anti-spyware.
HI
Have a look at Capsa its a network sniffing program that analysis sniffing programs like wireshark.
