RM SmartCache 2 Blocking [random] users from Google Images
I'm having an issue that I'm not getting anywhere with support on, and now I'm getting it in the neck from a few teachers.
Probably 70% of users can access Google Images fine, but people in the same AD Group as users not experiencing the problem, on the same Machine, are getting filtered with Google Images. I've empties the cahce, reset profiles, reinstalled SmartCache Client on these machines, no joy...I also tried changing usertype to staff in case these students were picking up a problem from their usertype to no joy. Our list blocking it is 'Content Filter' if that helps? I can't find this filter to view it, guessing it's a default RM one...
Anyone with ANY ideas would make me extremely happy,
Thanks,
Laura

24th November 2010, 12:08 PM #2 Sounds like your firewall/isp is blocking one of googles image mirrors. Check to see if you can access their static thumbnail server.
Make sure you can access gstatic.com as this is where google gets its thumbs.

24th November 2010, 12:30 PM #3 We had this exact same issue and solved it by adding the url for Google Images to the allow list. Baffled us for a while too!

24th November 2010, 01:16 PM #4 It's only been some users - and was going straight to our filtering page for them.
but gstatic.com/images to allowed list solved it cheers :-)

24th November 2010, 02:44 PM #5 had the same thing. RM denied they do any filtering and it is 100% within our control, yet the fact they do content filtering and you cannot view the words in that content filter suggest otherwise.
Had to do the same workaround of adding the site even though google images is clearly allowed, but a word in there is flagging it up

26th November 2010, 01:08 PM #6 Ahh apparently it's a countywide problem..our SmartCache is only noticably blocking www.google.co.uk/compressiontest/gzip.html

It can also be resolved by forcing SafeSearch to strict which pre-filters and removes whatever SmartCache is throwing it's toys out of the pram over

Hi, sorry how did you force SafeSearch to strict on an RM network - I have been trying to find a solution without much luck! Cheers
