    file associations! grr..

    We've got powerpoints with hyperlinks to wmv files in them. The file association on all our machines for wmv is vlc, yet clicking on it within the powerpoint doesn't launch it. Change the file association manually to WMP and it's fine. So the job is to change the association on all machines...this is what i've tried

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.w mv]
    "Application"="wmplayer.exe"

    Reg fragment as above allocated to Global workstation settings. no change

    Reg fragment as above allocated to machine type. no change

    reg fragment as above allocated to specific user type. no change.

    reallocated wmp to a machine. no change

    Built a package with just the reg change in, and allocated it to a workstation. no change.

    Any more ideas. I've followed the TEC article to the t and its just ignoring the reg change.

    Oops that was just a typo. I did notice the same typo on a few of the support articles...maybe it's something that happens on the clipboard..

    Anyways..found a different way of achieving the same thing. Basically created a WMP playlist (which powerpoint does open ok) for each and every video. bit of a ballache but it's all done and working now.

    cheers!
