Open Source chat / messenger program required
Since Skype, Messenger and a number of other chat type programs no longer work through our "educational" ISP I am seeking a suitable free chat program that we can use in school. This will be mostly for staff to use to communicate with each other from the classroom or for the head to tell everyone that he has called an emergency staff meeting at lunch time!

openfire(server) spark(client) can just be copied to pcs and just works. can be set to get contacts list from ad so teachers etc are pre populated with whatever you feel is appropriate

Openfire and Pandion here (Pandion supports AD integration, so don't have to have separate login).
