You need to build the XP machine as a CC3. I believe in CC3 they still had build disks? Or is there a SmartClient route?

Yes, you need to use smartclient. Take a look on the RM website, search for smartclient... that should tell you what to do. It's pretty easy.

Can also use a build disk - make one, turn it into an .img and point your virtual floppy drive to it - but doing it that way means you also have to root out the virtual network drivers too. Smartclient is the best route to take.

Windows XP machine must not already be a member of any domain
    *
Local (workstation) 'Administrator' account password must be 'rm'
    *
The harddisk label must be blank

    Instructions

    Start, Run: \\***-SVR-001\RMHolding

Enter username of 'setup' and the password to access the share

    Browse to 'Utilities\RM Commissioning Utilities\<version>\

Right-click on 'RM Commissioning Utilities' MSI package and choose Install

    Close the window

    Start, Run: C:\RM\Install\SmartClient.bat

Click OK on the message that appears - the machine will reboot

Wait for the RM Workstation Build Window to appear and fill in the appropriate information.

    Example:

    RM Workstation Build

    NetBIOS Domain: SCHOOL

    UPN Suffix: SCHOOL.internal

    Domain Setup Username: setup

    Domain Setup Password: <password>

    Location: ***/Main Site/

Ok i have 2 Workstations set up and have done this on both but get diffrent results.

Workstation 1: It gets to Setting Domain Security and the gets to like attemp 1784 and still going.

Workstation 2: It gets to the bit when updating registry and then shows an error and says i have to rebuild it.

Any help would be appreciated Thanks.

I would call RM as you should most likely have a support contract. You should also have CC3 licences for the machines you are testing with.

Its just we cant make a build disk as it keeps coming up no drivers but wont let us addd drivers, We have the Server online and the two Machines connect to it all right but just wont install.

    Its really annoying.

Have you got all the relevant drivers for the network card and such like?

Make a normal XP SP2 vm. Use driver magician or similar to export the drivers.

    O.o

    You guys are over-complicating methinks.

CC3 Server just sits ontop of whatever ver. Windows. VMWare knows how to handle network for Windows np.

The clients should already have their Windows Network Drivers installed before being smart cliented, right? So, no problem there either.

Problem is probably going to be communications between the CC3 server and the Workstations. Which is down to:
    a) Your network - Can the WinXP talk to the CC3 server prior to build, access shares etc?
    b) Your configuration of the smart client - Although, from what I can see it looks right.

As to Build Disks, you've not really stated the problem too clearly. But here's an illustration or two for you.

    http://bit.ly/79EFnQ
This shows me having clicked on the Left to "Build Disk Network Cards", under "Drivers" and then click on to "Add Driver" button at the Top. (Network Drivers being pretty much the only essential ones for the Build)

    http://bit.ly/5XHb8t
This is the screen that should then pop up, note that you'll need both MSDOS and Windows Drivers (The MSDOS being v.important bit for the Build)

Do you mind me asking how you managed to build a virtual CC3 server? I'd love to be able to build one on ESX for testing as there is so much I want to try out and play with and there's no way I'd risk the couple of schools that have them in production environments
