29th November 2009, 08:04 PM #2 There are no CC3 "disks" that will install your whole CC3 network again if something drastic has happened. You should hopefully have a disaster recovery plan and have backups etc..
You may also have an RM support contract whereby they would provide help and support should the worst happen. It sounds to me as though perhaps the school has not paid it's support though so RM are not willing to help which is fair enough.
When RM commission a server or network they will go through the usual and also run loads of RM only bits of pieces scripts and so on according to their system requirements. I think your best bet is to contact RM again and arrange for support even if it is adhoc to resolve your current problems. I am sure there are a few peeps on here that may be able to help but some of the inner workings of RM may be a mystery to most (sometimes a mystery to RM themselves).
Apologies if i am mistaken.

29th November 2009, 08:18 PM #3 Are you looking for the CC3 Server recovery CD?
if you are and you have a support contract search the knowledge Library for "NWS640565". This will tell you what disk is needed for which server. If you need a disk I have I will let you have the iso

29th November 2009, 08:36 PM #5 You need to tell me what disk you need. Every CC3 server has a different disk. If you look at the support page I mentioned and let me know which one you need I might be able to help

29th November 2009, 08:48 PM #7 If you don't have access to the RM knowledge library then you perhaps don't have a valid support contract. Even with the ISO there will be other steps and scripts, as highlighted already, so you really need to think this through.

29th November 2009, 10:20 PM #9 Good luck formatting your school servers. Hope you know what you are doing... Oh and you might want to check with RM if they are happy for their KB articles and support downloads to be shared perhaps without a valid support contract on a forum. If it is just motherboard files maybe you should go to the board manufacturer page. If you do not know 100% what you are doing and you are just a tech without any specific RM experience and no Network Manager to advise, i would suggest you think really hard before you start formatting anything.

Have you checked to see if you have a valid contract? Login to My Account on RM.

I would seriously considering phoning RM and pay them whatever it costs to have them come out to you. Sounds like you're in full scale disaster mode at the moment and you can't afford to be faffing around trying to get it up and running again really.

30th November 2009, 10:34 AM #14 Sounds like peeps are panicking and resorting to doing things they may not be able to undo. Usually comes from inexperience to be honest but that may not be the case here. In the same situation i would definitely not be looking to format servers without a hell of a lot of knowledge of the current system. Something that it appears the posters may not have from the remarks made and the fact that it is an RM network which can be pretty awkward sometimes to fix.
Sometimes you have to take a deep breath and say, "this is bad but panic will make it worse". Then calmly look at the options available and speak to those senior to yourself about the options before making any rash decisions. First port of call would be RM support, if there is no contract, straight to SMT to sort something out.

30th November 2009, 11:00 AM #15 My 2 pennies worth ..
I'm not overly offay with RM and their workings other than a few packages I use at one of my schools from them (RM Maths and the like) but I do know servers..
One thing I would never attempt to do without knowing that:
- I have all the correct disks even if that means contacting my supplier and purchasing them again so I'm sure they are the right ones for my setup
- I have complete backups of both data on the system and system settings that I can run a restore from
- I fully understand the architecture of the machine and software involved and what needs doing to get it back up and running
is to rebuild, never mind reformat, a server machine. It is quite an expert arena and if you don't have a lot of experience (please forgive me if you do have lots of experience when I say this, it's just an opinion not a personal stab at anyone here!
) then you are always better paying for someone that does.
Disaster recovery plans often, for those with small teams or individuals running the network, will include some kind of third party support. I know that I have ad hoc third party support on standby and in place at my schools so should either things go wrong outside of my control or things go wrong and I'm not available through illness or anything (touch wood that won't be the case) that the system can be brought back online as swiftly as possible.
What everyone is basically saying on here is it's not a crime to call in third party support, especially with specialist systems such as RM, and it's something that you could perhaps learn from as well. It's one things managing the day to day business of a server and network, but building servers is a niche and isn't a day to day activity for most of us (unless you're either in the game of building servers for deployment to sites such as some of the wonderful sponsors on here or really bloody unlucky with your setup! lol).
It's much better to go to SMT now and say 'look, this is outside of my knowledge, I could do with some help' instead of saying 'yeah yeah, I can sort it' f
g it up completely and then having to pay more to get back what could potentially be a simple process for RM themselves. From doing this and SMT worth their money will identify a potential training need in you and it's win win for all, they pay for the support this time and get it sorted and can then look to your own training needs to help should this happen again.
